Men's Basketball to Face Western Michigan in BracketBusters Event

GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay men's basketball team has found out that its opponent for the O'Reilly ESPNU BracketBusters event will be Western Michigan. Green Bay (12-9, 6-5) will host the Broncos at the Resch Center on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 7:05 p.m. The Broncos sport a 12-9 overall record, including a 6-2 mark in Mid-American Conference play. Western Michigan is coached by Steve Hawkins, who is in his fifth season at the helm of the program. The Phoenix trails three games to one in the all-time series, but Green Bay is 1-0 against Western Michigan since joining the Division I ranks. The last meeting between the schools came on Nov. 27, 1982, an 81-42 victory by the Phoenix. This is the fifth straight year that Green Bay has competed in the BracketBusters pool, and it will be its fourth home game. During the 2008-09 season, the Phoenix will travel to Kalamazoo to take on Western Michigan in a regular season game. The Horizon League and Missouri Valley Conference boast the most BracketBusters television selections with five apiece. Last year, the Horizon League posted a record of 7-2 in BracketBuster games, the best mark in the country. Green Bay picked up its first ever victory in the event last year, an 82-76 win at Northern Illinois. The Phoenix returns to action at 7:05 p.m. Thursday when it faces Valparaiso at the Resch Center.
