During the evening, Mayor Jim Schmitt proclaimed Feb. 7, 2008, as "Dick Bennett Day" in Green Bay, while Chancellor Bruce Shepard surprised Bennett with his announcement that the practice gym inside the new Kress Events Center would forever be known as "Dick Bennett Gym". The first 3,000 fans received posters of the legendary coach, who signed autographs for more than an hour following Green Bay's exciting overtime victory over the Crusaders.

Bennett coached 10 seasons at Green Bay, leading the Phoenix to five postseason berths, including NCAA Tournament appearances in 1991, 1994 and 1995. During his tenure in Green Bay, he recorded 187 wins, including the school's lone NCAA Tournament victory.
