Feb. 29, 2008
ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Green Bay men's tennis team faced Northern Illinois Friday afternoon, dropping a 6-1 decision to its non-conference foe at the Boylan Tennis Center. Matt Clegg posted Green Bay's lone victory on the day, a straight-set win at No. 3 singles. After a 6-4 win in the first set, Clegg rallied with a 6-1 score in the second set. A pair of Phoenix netters forced third-set tiebreakers, but could not get the upper hand. John Brough came back after a 6-4 loss in the first set with a 7-6 effort in the second set in No. 5 singles, but Northern Illinois' Matt Hansen won the tiebreaker. At No. 6 singles, Eric Plaushines also rallied after a first-set setback, but could not hold on in a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 loss. Northern Illinois, in their first action since Feb. 14, swept all three doubles matches for the first point of the match. Green Bay concludes this weekend's action at Butler Sunday for a 1 p.m. contest. |
