GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay women's basketball team (20-4, 12-1) captured its ninth-straight 20-win season Saturday with its convincing 84-59 win over Butler in front of a Kress Center-record 3,321 fans. Junior Rachel Porath had her second standout game in a row, besting her career-high from three-point range set two days ago with a 6-of-7 night from downtown on her way to a game-best and career-high 22 points in just 26 minutes. Porath's three-point percentage in the game (.857) ranks second-best in team history. Senior Kayla Groh had an all-around effort for the Phoenix, posting a career-high eight assists with 11 points and six rebounds. Lavesa Glover just missed a double-double with 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds while junior Erin Templin tallied 13 points. Green Bay finished a white-hot 11-of-18 from three-point land, aided by Porath's career effort. The team's mark ranks ninth in team history and was a season-high for three-pointers. After Butler (16-8, 6-7) took a brief 13-12 lead with 12:34 to go, back-to-back Porath three-pointers ignited a 13-0 run and aided the Phoenix in outscoring the Bulldogs 39-6 the rest of the half. Green Bay finished the first half with a 26-4 run, with Templin scoring the last six points of the stanza on a natural three-point play with a three-pointer on the left side. Although Butler outscored Green Bay 40-33 in the second half, Green Bay was able to rest its squad as no player saw more than 28 minutes. Nine of the team's 11 players found the scoring column. Green Bay dominated on the boards, out-rebounding Butler 43-20. Of note, the Phoenix had 17 offensive rebounds, resulting in 17 second-chance points. Butler was led by Brittany Bowen's 18 points, while Lade Akande finished with 13 points. Green Bay hits the road next week for its final road games of the regular season, starting Feb. 21 at UIC at 7 p.m. |
