GREEN BAY GAME DAY
Both of this week's contests will air live on AM 1400 WDUZ "The Fan" in the Green Bay area, with Bruce VandenPlas on the call. Live audio is also available here. Live stats and video are also available through Green Bay Athletics' website.
Phoenix Fast Fact: Green Bay is 9-0 all-time on Valentine's Day, including 3-0 against current league teams.
Kayla Groh was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District V second team for the second straight year, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Feb. 7. Groh becomes the third Phoenix player in that time span to be a two-time honoree. In the classroom, Groh boasts a 3.68 grade point average in business administration. With Groh's selection, Green Bay continued its streak of academic success; Since 1999, eight Green Bay women's basketball student-athletes have earned Academic All-District V honors 11 times. With its recent proficiency at the free throw line, Green Bay is now ranked in the top 30 in the NCAA in all three shooting categories, making the Phoenix the only team in the nation that can make that claim. Green Bay is first in three-point percentage (.436), third in field goal percentage (.494) and 26th in free throw percentage (.752). Scouting Valparaiso: The Crusaders are coming off a two-win weekend after defeating Loyola Feb. 7 69-62 and following up with a 76-46 victory over UIC. Against the Flames Feb. 9, three players were in double figures for Valpo, led by Aimee Litka's 15 points. Katie Emig came off the bench for 13 points and eight rebounds. Agnieszka Kulaga leads Valpo with 14.8 points per ame while Litka is close behind with a 14.4 ppg clip. Both are tied for the team lead in rebounding with 5.3 caroms per contest. Green Bay looks to avenge its lone Horizon League loss with tonight's contest. Valpo defeated the Phoenix 90-88 in overtime on a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Launa Hochstetler. Green Bay owns a 15-4 lead in the all-time series, with a 7-2 lead in Green Bay.
Scouting Butler: After jumping out to a 10-1 start to the season, the Bulldogs have faltered in Horizon League play, including its most recent 67-64 loss to Loyola at home. Against the Ramblers, Lade Akande and Azjah Bass led the Bulldogs with 16 and 10 points, respectively. Butler had just nine turnovers in the contest, but was plagued with 37 percent shooting. Akande, a preseason first-team all-league selection, leads Butler with 15.8 points per game. Susan Lester is also averaging double figures with 13.2 ppg, while assists leader Tara Miller leads the NCAA with her 3.32 assist/turnover ratio.
Green Bay has a 29-7 lead in the all-time series, including a 15-2 record in Green Bay and an 11-game winning streak over the Bulldogs in Titletown. Earlier this year, the Phoenix topped Butler 73-58 Jan. 17.
