CHICAGO, Ill. - The Green Bay softball team (6-12, 0-2) ran into a buzzsaw Wednesday night in the squad's Horizon League opener, as the Phoenix dropped a pair of games to UIC (13-21, 4-1). The Flames won the first game 13-1 and took the second by a 6-0 count.

In the opener, starting pitcher Anna Bluemel lasted just 1 1/3 innings after allowing four earned runs. Staked to a 5-0 lead heading into the fourth, UIC broke the game open by plating eight runs in the frame to put the game out of reach.

Dana Brockman homered in the fifth for the Phoenix, which was held to just two hits in the contest. It was the second round-tripper of the year for Green Bay and the first for Brockman.

Amanda Margelofsky took the hill in the nightcap, and was touched for five earned runs on nine hits in six innings of work.

The Phoenix posted six hits in the contest, but was unable to produce a score. Sara Junion led the way for Green Bay with a pair of hits, while Krissy Hanson went 1-for-2.

Green Bay returns to action Saturday at Wright State. The Phoenix will play a double header against the Raiders beginning at 1 p.m. and then will conclude its three-game series on Sunday at 11 a.m.
