Phoenix Softball Team Drops a Pair at Wright State
April 5, 2008
DAYTON, Ohio - The Green Bay softball team (6-14, 0-4) couldn't stop Wright State's offense in Saturday afternoon's Horizon League double header. The Raiders (15-16, 4-2) came from behind to take the first contest 7-3, and led throughout the second game of the twinbill to win by an 11-3 advantage. In the opener, the Phoenix took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth on Melani Niederer's single that scored Jenna Nitti. Nitti pinch ran for Missy Schleicher, who had doubled to bring home Green Bay's first two runs of the game. All three runs in the inning came after two outs were recorded. Green Bay could not hold the lead, however, as the Raiders scored one run in the fifth on a Heather Bauer solo home run. Wright State busted the game open in the sixth when the Raiders were able to string together a four-run inning, accumulating five hits off pitcher Anna Bluemel (4-5). Amanda Margelofsky took the hill in the second game, and struggled through 3 1/3 innings, giving up nine hits and nine earned runs. She fell to 0-6 on the season. In the second inning, Dana Brockman doubled with two outs, and scored when Leah Korger reached on an error by pitcher Ashleigh Jackson. Green Bay's other two runs came in the fifth when the Phoenix strung together three straight hits, the last a double by Sara Junion which scored Jenna Woepse. Krissy Hanson scored later in the inning on a Vanessa Lefan groundout. Green Bay totaled eight hits in the second game, with three players posting two hits. Woepse led the Phoenix in the second game, by reaching base in all four plate appearances and scoring one run. The Phoenix returns to action when it concludes the three-game series Sunday at 11 a.m. against the Raiders. --www.uwgbathletics.com-- |
