CHICAGO - Green Bay picked up its second shutout victory of the Horizon League Championships on Friday afternoon, as the Phoenix bounced Detroit from the tournament with an 8-0 whitewashing at the Loyola Softball Park. The Phoenix moves on to face second-seeded Valparaiso in an elimination game today at 6 p.m.

Anna Bluemel registered her team-leading eighth victory of the year by limiting the Titans to just two hits. She fanned a pair, allowed one free pass and faced just one batter over the minimum.

Bluemel has pitched in all three tournament games for the Phoenix and has surrendered a mere three runs over 17 innings of work, good for a 1.24 earned run average.

Green Bay scored the only run it needed in the first inning when Vanessa Lefan cracked a two-out double to drive home Krissy Hanson, who had reached on a walk. The Phoenix tacked on two more runs the next inning courtesy of a hit by pitch and an unusual four-base error on a sacrifice bunt attempt.

The Phoenix offense pounded out nine hits, four of which came in a four-run uprising in the fourth. Green Bay sealed the game by the eight-run rule with a tally in the bottom of the fifth.

Lefan, Jenna Woepse and Samantha Howe all had two hits for the Phoenix. Hanson and Melani Niederer both scored twice as Green Bay improved to 12-24.
