Green Bay Closes Out Rebel Spring Games With 4-3 Loss
March 20, 2008
KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Green Bay (6-10) finished up play at the Rebel Spring Games with another tough loss, a 4-3 decision to Siena, on Thursday. Green Bay's scheduled morning game against Army was cancelled due to unplayable field conditions at Oren Brown Field after heavy rains soaked the area early Thursday morning. Green Bay completed the tournament with a 6-5 record, and all five defeats came in one-run contests. The Phoenix lost three 3-2 games and two 4-3 contests. In Thursday's game, Green Bay battled back from a 2-0 deficit with a trio of runs in the top of the fifth inning. Vanessa Lefan had the big hit as she drove in a pair of runs with a double. Samantha Howe followed up with a sacrifice fly to put Green Bay on top by one. However, Siena rallied from behind in the last of the seventh. The Saints loaded the bases off Green Bay hurler Anna Bluemel, and won the game in walk-off fashion after the Phoenix right fielder dropped a fly ball. Bluemel finished the tournament with a 4-1 record. She surrendered a two-out, two-run home run in the second inning that accounted for Siena's first two runs. The Saints finished the game with six hits, while the Phoenix totaled five. Green Bay opens Horizon League play this weekend at Valparaiso. The teams are slated to play a double header Saturday afternoon and a single contest Sunday. --www.uwgbathletics.com-- |
