YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Green Bay women's tennis team could not keep its momentum from its first win of the 2008 season last week in a pair of losses Friday to Horizon League competition. Cleveland State topped the Phoenix 7-0 in Cleveland to start the day, while Youngstown State topped the Phoenix 6-1.

The No. 1 doubles tandem of Emily Lawent and Lauryn Grimando went 2-0 on the day, posting an 8-4 victory over Cleveland State's top duo while the Phoenix pair shot down Youngstown State's No. 1 team 8-5.

Against Cleveland State, Green Bay's lone victory on the day was Lawent and Grimando's win at No. 1 doubles. But the Vikings nabbed wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to capture the doubles point.

The Vikings then went on for straight set wins in singles action for the shutout. Lawent managed to battle to a 6-4, 6-3 setback at No. 1 singles.

Against Youngstown State later in the day, Green Bay's win with Lawent and Grimando, paired with a victory at No. 2 doubles, gave the Phoenix the doubles point of the match. Kelly Stadum and Laura Bartingale were victorious in an 8-4 match.

But the host Penguins rallied with a sweep in singles play. Both Grimando and Callee Conda forced third sets, but could not fend off YSU.

Green Bay returns to action next weekend at Horizon League foe Milwaukee.
