Skinner Earns League Player Of The Week Nod

Senior honored after recording pair of double-doubles

Jan. 28, 2008

MILWAUKEE - Marcus Skinner of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has been named the Horizon League's Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

Skinner recorded a pair of double-doubles as UWM downed Youngstown State Thursday night before knocking Cleveland State out of first place Saturday.

In the win over the Penguins Thursday, Skinner tallied collegiate-highs of 16 points and 12 rebounds. Then in Saturday's victory over the Vikings, Skinner added 15 points and 10 rebounds. In all, 13 of Skinner's 22 rebounds came on the offensive end.

For the week, Skinner averaged 15.5 points and 11 rebounds per game while shooting a stellar 65 percent from the field.

He now has three-straight double-doubles, becoming the first Panther to accomplish that feat since Adrian Tigert did it late in the 2005-06 season.

Skinner is the first Panther player to be recognized by the league this season.

The Panthers have now won nine of their last 10 games and are just a game out of first place in the league standings. UWM returns to the road for a pair of games this week, playing at Detroit Thursday and Wright State Saturday.
