Leibold Selected Horizon League Scholar-Athlete Of The Month

MILWAUKEE - Junior Robby Leibold of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's swimming team was named the Horizon League's Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Month for October, the league office announced today. Tara Geegan of the Wright State volleyball team was selected as the female recipient of the monthly honor, which was started this fall by the league office. Leibold is off to a stellar start to the swimming season, recording four victories and four second-place finishes in the month of October. He won all three events he swam against MAC Champion Eastern Michigan Oct. 20, winning the 500-yard freestyle, 1000 freestyle, and 200 butterfly, and he has top times on the team this year in those same events. Against Big Ten foe Wisconsin Oct. 12, Leibold won the1000 freestyle while taking second in the 500 freestyle. Academically, Leibold maintains a 3.85 grade-point average as a health sciences major. He has been recognized as the U.S. Army Scholar-Athlete of the Week three times in his career and was named to the All-League Academic swimming team in 2006-2007. He has also been named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll, as well as the Dean's List at UWM. The Horizon League office added the Scholar-Athlete of the Month to the mix to compliment the weekly accolades. The league had instituted the Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards last year as a way to recognize outstanding academic and athletic achievement by its student-athletes.
