Schleis Named League Scholar-Athlete Of The Week
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Feb. 27, 2008) - Junior Adam Schleis of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's track and field team has been named the Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week for Feb. 25, the league office announced yesterday. Schleis is the first Panther from the track and field team to win the award, which honors athletic and academic achievements and encompasses every sport the league sponsors. Schleis led Milwaukee to a 4-0 record last Friday at the UWM Panther Tune Up, scoring wins over three other league schools in dual meet scoring. He won both the long jump and 60m hurdle events, breaking the school long jump mark in the process. In topping the field in the long jump, he leapt 23-10 ¾. That eclipsed the record of 23-6 ¾ Adrian Ritchie had established in 1987. In the 60m hurdles, Schleis ran a time of 8.27 in taking top honors. While it is not his fastest time this season (8.19), it would still lead the league. In the classroom, Schleis is a history major and boasts a 3.36 GPA. He has been named the league's academic all-league team, as well as to the league's academic honor roll. Schleis and the Panthers are in action this Saturday and Sunday at the 2008 Horizon League Indoor Championships in Kent, Ohio. Milwaukee is looking for a fifth-straight league indoor crown.
