MILWAUKEE, Wis. (May 7, 2008) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's track and field team aims for its fifth-straight Horizon League outdoor championship this week, when it heads to Youngstown, Ohio, for the 2008 installment of the league outdoor meet, hosted by Youngstown State Thursday and Friday.

Milwaukee is among the nation's leaders in both consecutive outdoor championships and consecutive league titles overall. The Panthers have won the last four league outdoor titles, tying Wisconsin (Big Ten) and Southern Utah (Summit League) for the fourth-longest active streak. UWM has also won nine-straight titles overall, including indoors, tying the Badgers for third on that list.

The only teams with longer streaks are Manhattan (23-straight MEAC) and BYU (12-straight Mountain West).

The Panthers enter the league championships with seven athletes atop the league in their respective events. Junior Adam Schleis leads the league in both the long jump and 110m hurdles. He is the two-time 110m hurdle champion and has finished first and second in the long jump at the last two league outdoor meets. Also, in the long jump, he paces four Panthers among the top five.

Sophomore Quinn Mongoven leads the league in the high jump and is going for a fourth-straight league title in the event to start his career. He swept the indoor and outdoor meets as a freshman last season and took first in the event indoors. He is followed on the leader board by senior Justin Bohler in second, who also sits second to Schleis in the 110m hurdles.

UWM's most prolific league champ is senior Darren Cole, who has five indoor and outdoor triple jump titles to his credit. He is the team's lone regional qualifier at this point and paces the league in the event, just ahead of sophomore Josh Zill. The duo will look to give Milwaukee it's fifth-straight titlist in the event.

On the track side of things, sophomores Tyler Bucholz and Isaiah Adams figure prominently in the sprint events. Bucholz leads the league in the 200m and is second in the 100m and 400m. He is the reigning outdoor 400m champion and won the 60m, 200m and 400m at the 2008 indoor meet. Adams, meanwhile, is currently second to Bucholz in the 200m and third in the 100m and 400m. In fact, in the 200m, the Panthers occupy five of the top six places.

Both Bucholz and Adams will likely compete with the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, as they have all season. The duo is on both relays that currently lead the league. Schleis and Cole fill out the 4x100m that won its first outdoor title since 1999 last season. On the 4x400m relay, junior Patrick Casey and freshman Cory Yttre fill out the quartet that is looking for a fourth-straight Panther win in the event.

Senior Larry Ehrhorn in the shot put, junior Sean Jaehnig in the pole vault and junior Eric Pitt in the 3000m steeplechase are all currently second in their events.

Milwaukee used last weekend to rest before this week's league championships, as well as get in one last competition at the Redbird Classic in Normal, Ill. Schleis won the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.89, while Bucholz tied his league-leading, personal-best time of 21.39 in winning the 200m.

Three more Panthers ran times in the 200m that rank each of them among the top six in the league. Senior Lynn Koepke placed third in 22.17, just ahead of Casey in fourth in 22.18 and freshman Jared Foerch in fifth in 22.29.

UWM had six more athletes in the top five of their events, including a pair in the pole vault.
