CHICAGO, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee diving teams closed out a long weekend with a trip to Chicago, Ill., Sunday to take part in the UIC Diving Invitational. The men's team placed second at the meet and the women took fourth.

Green Bay won both team titles, ending the Milwaukee women's two-year reign as team champions.

On the women's side, Milwaukee left the upperclassmen at home and made the trip with its freshmen divers.

"We didn't take everyone because of the road trip over the weekend," Griffore said. "The kids competed hard and it was good to get our freshman the experience like this. It is early in the season and getting them this experience will give them more confidence down the road."

On the one-meter board, freshman Lauren Roy was the top UWM finisher, placing sixth with a score of 220.55 points. Classmate Kelsey George took ninth with 197.50 points and freshman Michelle Kornder was 13th at 174.65 points.

In the three-meter event, George took eighth with 197.20 points to lead the way. Roy was 11th at 185.05 and Kornder 14th at 161.55 points.

On the men's side, sophomore Patrick Rongitsch led the way, winning the one-meter competition and taking third on the three-meter board. That concluded quite a weekend performance after placing first twice on Friday against Wright State and second twice on Saturday against Eastern Michigan.

He scored 249.20 points on the one-meter to outdistance the field by over 40 points. Freshmen Nick DeWitt placed seventh with 211.46 points and Josh Lindquist eighth with 201.80 points.

"P.J. did a fantastic job, especially considering this was three meets in three days in three different states," UWM head coach Dave Griffore said. "He was tired, but to compete like that after this road trip was great to see."

On the three-meter board, Rongitsch placed third overall with 268.80 points. Lindquist was sixth with 229.80 and DeWitt ninth at 204.35 points.

Milwaukee hits a slight break in its schedule, next swimming at Wheaton College November 2nd.
