Panther Women Compete At Wisconsin Elite Invite
MADISON, Wis. (Jan. 26, 2008) - Senior Shannon Buttchen took second in the 600m and sophomore Erin Havener took second in the pole vault to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team in action at the Wisconsin Elite Invitational Saturday afternoon at The Shell. The meet was non-scoring. Buttchen ran a time of 1:38.44 in finishing second in the 600m. She was joined in the top five by sophomore Laura Ring. Meanwhile, Havener cleared 11-11 ¾ in the pole vault for her runner-up finish. Sophomore Abbie Zaspel was also the top collegiate finisher in the 5000m, taking second place. She crossed the line in 18:48.13. Milwaukee also had a pair of top-five finishers in the 400m and long jump. Freshman Angie Kaufmann took third in the 400m in a time of 58.49, the seventh-fastest time in school history. Sophomore Kelsey Conrad was fifth in the event in a time of 59.02. In the long jump, four Panthers were among the top seven, led by junior Jenni Saarinen. Saarinen was fourth with a leap of 17-9 ¾, while junior Beth Zimmerman leapt 17-8 1.4 for fifth, sophomore Emily Budde 17-7 for sixth and sophomore Kory Olson 17-2 for seventh.
Zimmerman also competed in the triple jump, taking fourth with a distance of 37-3 ¼. Freshman Marquisha Bradley competed in the first individual events of her career, taking fifth in both the preliminaries and finals of the 60m. Her prelim time of 7.82 put her sixth in the school record book, while she posted a time of 7.84 in the finals. The Panthers return to action next Saturday (Feb. 2) at the Northern Iowa Invitational. |
