Panthers Shine On Final Day Of Iowa State Classic

Ring wins 800m, one of five athletes with top-10 times

AMES, Iowa (Feb. 16, 2008) - Sophomore Laura Ring won the unseeded 800m and four more athletes posted top-10 times in school history as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team wrapped up its weekend at the Iowa State Classic Saturday.

Ring won the unseeded 800m with a time of 2:14.81, which is the third-best time in school history. Senior Shannon Buttchen competed in the seeded 800m event and took 43rd, but crossed the line in 2:16.57. That time is sixth-best in school history.

UWM also had a pair of top-10 times in the 400m from sophomore Kelsey Conrad and freshman Angie Kaufmann. Conrad ran a time of 57.22 for 30th and Kaufmann was 41st in 58.10. Conrad's time is second all-time, 1.53 seconds off the school mark and 0.01 seconds ahead of what had been second. Kaufmann, meanwhile, had the sixth-best time.

Junior Erin Magargee rounded out the women's historical times in the seeded 3000m. She finished 24th, but her time of 10:06.83 is sixth in school history.

Freshman Chelsea Von Ruden had Milwaukee's top finish on the day, tying for seventh in the high jump. She cleared 5-3 in the event. Junior Beth Zimmerman also posted a top-20 finish on the day, taking 14th in the triple jump with a leap of 38-7.

The Panthers return to action with its only home meet of the 2008 season, the UWM Panther Tune-Up, next Friday at the Klotsche Center.
