Pierce Wins Long, Triple Jumps At Marquette Invitational
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (April 26, 2008) - Sophomore Reigna Pierce won both the long and triple jump events to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team at the Marquette Invitational Saturday across town at Shimek Track. The Panthers also wrapped up their weekend at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, competing in the 4x1600m. Pierce leapt 39 feet in the triple jump for the first time in her career, with a jump of 39-3 3/4. While she won the event, junior Kicha Cary took fourth with a distance of 37-7 3/4. In the long jump, Pierce jumped 18-3 1/4 for top honors, leading three Panthers in the top four. Cary was second at 18-1 3/4 and junior Kory Olson placed fourth at 17-1 1/4. Milwaukee also had two runners in the top four of the 100m hurdles, led by freshman Stacey Trzcinski in third with a time of 16.03. Olson was fourth at 18.33. Olson had a third top-five finish with her throw of 106-7 placing her fourth in the javelin despite the windy conditions. Senior Erin Magargee added another top-five for the Panthers, taking third in the 5000m with a time of 18:43.68. At the Drake Relays, Milwaukee competed only in the 4x1600m on Saturday, taking 18th with a time of 21:12.50. UWM returns to action next weekend, getting the league championship season underway at the Horizon League Multi-Events in Indianapolis, Ind. The remainder of the league meets follows a week later. Milwaukee will also be in action next weekend at the Redbird Classic, hosted by Illinois State in Normal, Ill.
