Saarinen Named Horizon League Athlete Of The Week
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Jan. 29, 2008) - Junior Jenni Saarinen became the second-straight member of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team to be named the Horizon League Athlete of the Week, when the league office announced its weekly awards today. Saarinen follows junior Beth Zimmerman, who garnered the honor Jan. 14 after the season-opening Division I Invitational. The award is the second of Saarinen's career. Last weekend, Saarinen highlighted Milwaukee's performance at the non-scoring Wisconsin Elite Invitational Friday and Saturday in Madison. She opened the meet by winning the pentathlon with 3,632 points. She fell just 68 points shy of her own school record and beat second place by 197 points. She also competed in the long jump, taking fourth (17-9 ¾). Saarinen and the Panthers are back in action Saturday at the Northern Iowa Classic in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
