Warren Thompson Named Horizon League Swimmer of the Week

Senior Warren Thompson Broke a Pair of Individual Pool Records and Garnered His Second SOTW Honor of 2008

Jan. 30, 2008

INDIANAPOLIS, IN -

The Wright State swimming and diving program earned their seventh individual honor of the season on Wednesday afternoon as the Horizon League selected Warren Thompson as the Male Swimmer of the Week.

Thompson helped Wright State to a dual meet victory over Xavier last Saturday at the WSU Natatorium, setting two individual pool records and a pool relay record in the process. The Boksburg, South Africa native broke his own pool record in the 200 yd. Butterfly with a time of 1:50.63 and then set the pool mark in the 100 yd. Butterfly with a winning time of 49.84. The winning mark in the 100 yd. Butterfly broke the old record by almost one full second.

Thompson helped WSU close out the meet with a pool record victory in the 200 yd. Freestyle Relay. The senior teamed up with LeRoux Pelser, Zach Fisher and T.J. Collins to post a winning time of 1:23.62, which clipped the only record by 27-tenths of a second.

Thompson owns the top times in the 100 and 200 yd. Butterfly events this season among his Horizon League competitors and this is the second time he has been honored as the Swimmer of the Week. Thompson also received the award on October 24 after posting a pair of victories against Milwaukee.
