INDIANAPOLIS, IN - After a record setting week in the pool, Wright State swimmer Jessica Weidert was named the U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The senior set three championship records and was named the league's athlete of the year at the conclusion of the 2008 championships.
Weidert had a solid week in the pool as she posted three championship records on her way to being named 2008 Horizon League Women's Swimmer of the Meet. She topped the league marks in the 200 yard individual medley (2:04.16), the 400-yard individual medley (4:24.27) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.63). Winning all three events and ending the season with a perfect record in the 200-yard breaststroke (8-0), Weidert was named the 2008 Women's Athlete of the Year.
In the classroom, Weidert boasts a perfect 4.000 grade-point average as a modern language major. She has earned the Highest Honors during every quarter at Wright State, and was named to the Academic All-League team in 2007. She also has been recognized on the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll. In 2007, Weidert was named the Dr. Carl Benner Quad-Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the annual WSU Athletics Banquet.
In her career, Weidert holds the Wright State school record in the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.16) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.09). She also owns the WSU Natatorium record in the 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard medley relay.
In the Horizon League championships, Weidert was named the Newcomer of the Year during her rookie season and won five individual titles in her career.
