INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Wright State baseball team swept the weekly Horizon League honors, announced Monday by the League office. It is the first weekly honor for both Kopilchack and Kaminsky, while it is the fifth and sixth honors for WSU this season.
Kopilchack posted a solid week at the plate to help the Green and Gold to a 3-1 record, including a sweep of league foe UIC. The left-handed hitter smacked three home runs, drove in 11 RBI's and scored six runs in four starts. The senior collected at least one hit, scored a least one run and drove in at least one RBI in every contest for the Raiders.
Against Xavier, Kopilchack had an RBI single and scored a run, before smacking a pair of home runs against Dayton. The senior hit a grand slam and a solo homer against the Flyers, collecting five RBI's on the day. The Ohio native then helped WSU to its first series victory over UIC since 1998 with five hits, three runs scored and five RBI's in the twinbill. He smacked his third home run of the week in the series finale and tallied three RBI's in the series opener.
On the season, Kopilchack is batting .298 with 20 runs scored and 27 RBI's. He leads the league with four triples and his seven home runs this season rank him second on the Horizon League charts. He has collected 75 total bases, second on the WSU squad, and he is tenth on the league ledger with his 27 RBI's.
Kaminsky started his week with a start against Xavier at Nischwitz Stadium that ended perfectly for the sophomore. Against the Musketeers, Kaminsky tossed four innings of perfect baseball, fanning two, to collect the victory. In Chicago, the Ohio native made his second start of the week and tossed seven innings, allowing only one run, to improve to 2-0 on the season. Kaminsky tossed 11 innings in two starts and allowed only one run on three hits. He posted a 0.82 ERA, fanning five batters while not issuing a walk.
