Nine Raiders Chosen for Basketball Wall of Fame

Feb. 10, 2008

Wall of Fame Inductees

Eight former Raiders and one coach have been selected for this year's induction into the Wright State Basketball Wall of Fame, announced WSU Athletics Director Mike Cusack. The ceremony will take place during the men's basketball game against Detroit on February 20.

This year's class includes Tim Walker (1972-74), Lyle Falknor (1973-76), Mike Grote (1982-84), Sean Hammonds (1991-94) and assistant coach Jim Brown (1970-97) from the men's program. The women's inductees will be Jess Van Der Geest (1997-00), Jeanne Biermann (1979-82), Lori Collins (1992-95) and Lois Warburg (1984-87).

Walker was the school's first 1,000-point scorer and currently sits as the 26th all-time scorer with 1,009 career points. Falknor, also a member of the 1,000-point club, scored 1,418 points in 99 career games and is currently 10th on the scoring list. Grote etched his spot in Raider hearts as he was named the Most Valuable Player of the 1983 National Championship game. Hammonds ranks as the sixth all-time scorer and the second all-time rebounder. Brown acted as an assistant coach under three head coaches from 1970 until 1996 when he was named as an interim head coach for the 1997 season.

Warburg (Sterwerf), MVP in 1984, ended her career as the third all-time leading scorer and currently sits in fifth place overall with 1,229 points in 111 games and led WSU in rebounding in 1984 with a 10.2 average. Biermann (Johnson), co-MVP in 1979, currently is the 13th all-time leading scorer with 1,039 points, knocking down 303 career free throws good for fourth place all time. Collins, already a member of the WSU Hall of Fame, ranks eighth on the all-time scoring list with 1,108 points while sits atop the all-time rebounding list with 897 rebounds. Van Der Geest, a Wausau (WI) High School coach, ranks 12th on the all-time scoring list with 1,054 points while being named the MVP as a sophomore and a senior.

This is the third induction class of the Basketball Wall of Fame which is celebrated every other year now. The Wall was established to honor the fine careers of former student-athletes and coaches in their particular sport.
