For the third time this season, senior outfielder Jherica Williams has been selected as the Horizon League Softball Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office.
Williams batted .400 in five games last week with four home runs and eight RBI along with six runs scored, a slugging percentage of 1.200 and an on-base percentage of .550. In a doubleheader at IPFW last Wednesday, she hit a three-run homer and scored twice in the first game and then went two-for-four with a RBI in the nightcap.
In WSU's three-game series sweep at UIC, Williams hit a home run in each game, including a two-run shot in the series finale on Sunday. She scored twice in the first game of the twinbill with the Flames on Saturday.
With the four home runs last week, Williams has set a new Wright State record for career home runs with 20, eclipsing the previous mark of 18 set by Kim Sycks from 1998-2001.
This is the third time this season that Williams has received the Player of the Week honor from the Horizon League as she was recognized on March 12 and 31.
For the season, Williams is hitting .472 with 17 home runs and 71 RBI. She also has 16 doubles, scored 54 runs, has a .950 slugging percentage and a .562 on-base percentage.
Wright State (29-24) is the #3 seed for this week's Horizon League Tournament, which begins Thursday at the Loyola Softball Park in Chicago. The Raiders open tournament play Thursday night at 9:00 Eastern against the Loyola/Detroit winner.
