Final Stats

ELON, NC - The Winston-Salem State University men's tennis team fell to 0-6 overall on the season on Saturday morning as they dropped a 7-0 decision to the Elon University Phoenix in non-conference men's collegiate tennis action.

Despite the debut of WSSU freshman phenom Maximilian Glodde, the Rams were swept by the 54^th-ranked Phoenix as WSSU earned only 14 game victories on the day.

The Phoenix started the morning by sweeping the doubles matches as Damon Gooch and Mason Schermerhorn defeated Brian Coxton and Ian Hunter 8-1 at first doubles; Cody MacDowell and Clark Howell defeated Maximilian Glodde and Troy Moore 8-1 at second doubles and Chris Spalding and Kevin Beard defeated Ryan Lindquist and Daren Milbourne 8-1 at third doubles.

Elon swept all six singles matches on the day as only Brian Coxton earned more than two game wins in his match as the Phoenix earned the 7-0 sweep of the Rams.

"Brian has continued to play well and his matches always last the longest.  He is very close to turning the corner on a number of games won which should result in his winning his individual match.  Every opposing coach has commented on his tennis ability and he will be a very valuable leader on our team as he continues to mature" WSSU head tennis coach Charlie Schoderbek said post-match.

The loss drops the Rams to 0-6 on the season while Elon improves to 2-2 overall with the win.

Winston-Salem State returns to action at 6:00 pm as they play host to Gardner Webb under the lights at the WSSU Tennis Complex.
