WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State University men's tennis team came up short to the Catawba College Indians on Sunday morning at the WSSU Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, NC by the score of 6-1 as the Rams fell to 0-8 overall on the season.
The lone highlight of the day for WSSU was Ian Hunter's 8-6 superset victory over the Indians' Dana Pallesen at fifth singles as the Rams recorded their first match victory of the 2008 season.
Hunter's win in the fifth singles flight would not be enough as Catwaba swept the remaining singles matches and all three doubles matches en route to the win, their second of the season.
Brian Coxton and Ian Hunter fell to Sean Soltan and Bryce Cockerham 8-4 at first doubles; Maximilian Glodde and Troy Moore dropped an 8-1 decision to Dana Pallesen and Tom McCormack at second doubles; and Ryan Lindquist and Patrick Jenkins fell to Hector Bousoulas and Cyle Petereson 8-1 at third doubles as Catwaba earned the victory.
The loss drops the Rams to 0-8 on the season while
WSSU returns to action at 4:00 pm as they play host to the Eagles of North Carolina Central at the WSSU Tennis Complex.
