Rams Post Fantastic Showing on Day One of 2008 Duke Asics Invitational

DAY ONE RESULTS

 

DURHAM, NC - Though the opening day of the 2008 Duke Asics Invitational was shortened, the Winston-Salem State Rams Track & Field team from posted some great times and finishes at the event. The Rams had some fantastic performances amidst a crowded field of some of the top track & field teams in the southeast.

 

WSSU junior Nathan Summerville set the tone for the Rams when he finished the men's high jump with a 10th place finish in the event and besting 20 other jumpers in the event. Summerville finished the event with a best jump of 1.90m (6'2.75").

 

The Rams found themselves running amidst a crowded field in the men's 400m dash as 69 competitors lined up for the event. WSSU sophomore James Legins, III had the best finish in the event, placing 42nd in a time of 52.01. Fellow sophomore Sadat Kahin finished 45th in the event with a time of 52.19. WSSU sophomore  Jordan Holley rounded out the day's performances finishing 22nd in the men's 400m hurdles in a time of 57.52 in the event.

 

The freshman tandem of Ja'Eric Shoffner and Aaron Licourt lined up for the men's 200m dash with Shoffner placing 11th amidst a field of 45 competitors in the event with a time of 22.95. His time was just .72 better than Licourt, who finished 29th in the event with a time of 23.67.

 

The final two events of the day, the final two sections of the men's 10,000m run and the men's 5,000m run were cancelled. The Rams will return to action on Saturday to complete the two day event.
