Box Score

CANYON, Texas - The West Texas A&M baseball team was narrowly clipped 8-7 by visiting Cameron on Sunday in the opening game of a doubleheader at Conner Park. During the nightcap, the Aggies were also able emerge victorious, 13-5, to win three of four games in the series.

The Buffs fall to 8-32 on the season and 5-26 in Lone Star Conference play, while the Aggies improve to 27-14 and 20-12 in league action.

WT baseball returns to action next weekend when it travels to Durant, Okla., for a four-game LSC series against Southeastern Oklahoma.

Game #1 Recap - (Cameron 8, West Texas A&M 7)
With the game tied at 4-4, the Buffs put together a three-run bottom of the eighth to take a 7-4 advantage on a two-run double from Kevin Els and a Darby Walker RBI single. The lead, however, would not stand as Cameron plated four runs in the top of the night to secure the 8-7 win.

Else ended the contest with a season-high four RBI, while first baseman Will McLaughlin collected three hits to lead the Buffs offensively. On the mound, Freshman Chris Gutierrez pitched eight strong innings, but got a no decision.

Game #2 Recap - (Cameron 13, West Texas A&M 5)
Senior second baseman Brain Shupp went 3-for-4 at the plate and McLaughlin drove in two runs but it was not enough to clinch a victory in the series finale.

Trailing 3-0, Shupp got the Buffs on the board by singling in a run, but it would not be until the bottom of the sixth when the home team could put another run on the scoreboard allowing Cameron to build a 7-1 lead. The Buffs got runs in the home half of the sixth on RBI from Kevin Els and Kelly Starr to cut the lead to 7-3, but a six-run Cameron seventh put the game out of reach.

McLaughlin drove in the final two WT runs of the day in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run double.
