WT Golfers to Host Buff/Lady Buffs Stampede
March 27, 2008
CANYON, Texas - West Texas A&M men's and women's golf teams welcome in squads from around the region next week as play begins for the 2008 Buff/Lady Buff Stampede. The tournaments will mark the only home events on the calendar for both the men and women. The men's field will take to La Paloma Golf Course when play begins at 8:30 a.m. on Monday morning. The event is scheduled for three rounds to be played on Monday and Tuesday. The women will tee off at 8:30 a.m. on Monday morning as well, but across the street at Tascosa Country Club. The tournament will feature two rounds of play, one on Monday and one on Tuesday. Joining the Buffs in a very challenging field will be Western New Mexico, Oklahoma Panhandle State, Abilene Christian, East Central, St. Mary's and Southeastern Oklahoma. The Buffs are looking to rebound from their last outing in which the team finished 14th at the Kicking Bird Classic. The Buffs will be led by junior Jon Musser, who will be looking to tame the lightning fast greens of La Paloma. Musser has been the Buffs' most consistent golfer in the last few events. The women's field will feature the likes of Western New Mexico, Oklahoma Panhandle State, Colorado State, Cameron, East Central, St. Mary's, Adams State, Fort Hays State, Central Oklahoma and a team of Scandinavian amateurs. The Lady Buffs will look to continue the success from the fall season as they cracked the top 25 in the Golf World/NGCS Division II Coaches' Poll following the team's win in the Grizzly Invitational/RMAC #3. The Lady Buffs will look for a pair of sophomores to continue playing beyond their years as Mollie Peterson and Whitney Osborne look to build upon their recent success. Osborne finished 10th in individual play in the last event the Lady Buffs competed in and Peterson finished first in individual play at the Grizzly Invitational earlier in the season. |
