Box Score

CANYON, Texas - Junior Itamar Keinan notched the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the second overtime period to give the No. 22 West Texas A&M men's soccer team a 2-1 victory over the visiting UT-Permian Basin Falcons. Freshman Ben Everson scored the Buffs' first goal then drew the penalty kick in double overtime as WTAMU recorded their fifth straight win and improved to 10-1 on the season.

UT-Permian Basin scored first, just six minutes into the match, when Luis Pavia passed the ball from the left goal line and Sergio Soto one-timed his shot to the near post.

The Falcons held onto the one-goal lead until Everson scored for the Buffs in the 50th minute. He beat two UTPB defenders on the left side and drilled his shot to the lower right corner of the goal to equalize the match.

Despite a strong offensive push by WTAMU - the men peppered UTPB goalkeeper Gage Peterson with 10 shots on goal - the game remained knotted at one goal apiece to force overtime.

The first overtime period passed with no scoring from either team.

In the 104th minute, Everson attacked the UT-Permian Basin goal but was tackled down in the box; the UTPB defender also fell and his hand touched the ball, giving the Buffs a penalty kick.

Keinan fired his shot to the top of the net to win the game for West Texas A&M.

Freshman goalkeeper Shane Taylor stopped five shots in 110:00 minutes of play, while the Buff defenders blocked a number of Falcon shots. On the other side of the pitch, WTAMU outshot UT-Permian Basin 31-16 and Peterson made eight saves for the Falcons.

West Texas A&M's next match is Friday at 3:00 p.m. as the Buffs host the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds at The Pitch.
