WTAMU Men's Soccer Routs St. Mary's, 4-0
Oct. 30, 2007
CANYON, Texas - With the help of sophomore Jacob Fynboe Jensen's two corner kick assists and four different goal scorers, the West Texas A&M men's soccer team rolled to a 4-0 win over St. Mary's on Tuesday afternoon, improving to 15-2 on the season. Freshman Ben Everson scored his team-leading 14th goal of the season while senior René Gómez and sophomore Aaron Thornton each scored their sixth goal of the year. Junior Oliver Mulamba added a goal, as well, increasing his season total to two. Thornton opened the scoring in the 10th minute off an assist from junior Itamar Keinan followed by Gómez's goal, which put the Buffs ahead, 2-0, just before the end of the first half. Junior Espanho Da Costa tallied the assist on Gómez's score. In the 54th minute, Mulamba notched his goal when he kept the ball low to the ground and beat St. Mary's goalkeeper Jayson Horn off of Jensen's corner kick. Everson added an insurance goal for the Buffaloes with just over 15 minutes left in the match when he scored off of another corner kick from Jensen. With the help of the ever-strong Buffalo defense, freshman goalkeeper Shane Taylor made three saves en route to recording his eighth shutout of the season. WTAMU travels to Wichita Falls on Sunday to face regional rival Midwestern State in its last match of the regular season. Kick-off between the two squads is slated for 1 p.m.; MSU is currently ranked No. 1 in the region while WT is ranked No. 3. |
