Two Buffs Haul In Weekly Southwest Soccer Conference Awards

CANYON, Texas - Sophomore forward Brad Williamson and freshman goalkeeper Shane Taylor were recognized by the Southwest Soccer Conference for their play during the week of Oct. 1, as West Texas A&M notched wins over Colorado Mines and previously ranked Ft. Lewis. Williamson and Midwestern State forward Daniel Brown were named Co-Offensive Players of the Week while Taylor and Midwestern State defender Brannon Calvert were honored as the Co-Defensive Players of the Week.

Williamson scored the game winning goal in overtime to give West Texas A&M a 2-1 victory over Ft. Lewis on Sunday afternoon in Golden, Colo. Ft. Lewis entered the weekend ranked No. 24 in the country and third in the Midwest region, while WTAMU was ranked sixth in the region. Williamson also tallied one goal in the Buffaloesʼ 5-2 rout of Colorado Mines on Friday evening; the Orediggers were ranked fifth in the region heading into the weekend.

Meanwhile, on the defensive side of the pitch, Taylor made seven saves (.700) and held opponents to just three goals as West Texas A&M picked up two important victories. With the big wins, the Buffs improved to 9-1 on the season and were earned a national ranking for the first time this season.

The Buffs are currently ranked No. 22 in the country and third in the Midwest region.
