Oct. 18, 2007

CANYON, Texas - After winning two out of three matches last week, the No. 18 West Texas A&M men's soccer team continues Southwest Soccer Conference play in its last home games of the 2007 regular season this weekend as it hosts Missouri Southern on Friday and returns to The Pitch on Sunday to play Northeastern State.

The Buffs picked up a 2-1 overtime win over UT-Permian Basin last Wednesday and a 5-3 win over Eastern New Mexico last Friday, then lost a hard-fought 2-1 match to Incarnate Word on Monday. Two freshman were named SSC Players of the Week for their efforts from the previous week: forward Ben Everson, his second SSC honor this season, and goalkeeper Shane Taylor, his third consecutive and fourth overall SSC award this season. Everson drove the Buffs' offensive attack by scoring three goals, improving his season total to 12. In goal, Taylor made five saves (.625 save percentage) and allowed just three goals (0.98 goals against average) as WTAMU improved to 11-2 overall with a 4-1 SSC mark.

Missouri Southern enters the weekend with an overall record of 3-7-2, 0-3-1 in SSC play, while Northeastern State comes to Canyon with a 5-8-1 record and a 1-2-1 conference mark.

Sunday's match will be Senior Day, featuring a presentation that will recap the athletic and academic careers of the Buffs' four seniors: Kenneth Christensen, Robert Franco, René Gómez and Tomer Otor.

WTAMU rounds out the season with matches at Texas A&M International on Oct. 28, St. Mary's on Oct. 30, and SSC rival Midwestern State Nov. 4.
