CANYON, Texas - Kenneth Christensen, senior defender and team captain for the West Texas A&M men's soccer team, has been named to the 2007 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America Third Team, as announced by the organization last week.

Christensen anchored the defense for WT, helping the team finish the season with an overall record of 17-3 and a share of the Southwest Soccer Conference regular season title. The Hedensted, Denmark, native helped the Buffs record a 0.83 goals against average by allowing adversaries to score just 17 goals, a total that includes holding all but two opponents to one goal or less.

In addition, Christensen's strong defense stand was vital in freshman goalkeeper Shane Taylor notching a record-setting nine shutouts during his first season in Canyon.

Offensively, Christensen tallied five goals and six assists, including going 3-for-3 in penalty kick opportunities and notching one game-winner against Texas Wesleyan on Sept. 12.

The Buffs beat Ft. Lewis by a 2-1 margin in the Midwest Regional semifinal; Christensen broke his foot in the later stages of the match, which caused him to miss the regional final against Midwestern State. West Texas A&M fell to MSU, 1-0, and the Mustangs continued on to the national semifinal game.

Throughout his career, Christensen has collected a slew of awards and honors. After his freshmen year, Christensen was named the team's defensive MVP. During his sophomore year, he was recognized as first team All-SSC and team defensive MVP in addition to garnering SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll status and earning the Golden Buffalo Award. Following his junior year, he was selected as first team All-SSC, Academic All-SSC, second team All-Midwest Region and the Buffs' defensive MVP for the third consecutive year. Additionally, prior to the 2007 season, Christensen was honored as the SSC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
