TexAnns Complete Sweep of WT Softball with 13-2 Win
April 6, 2008
CANYON, Texas - For the third straight contest, the TexAnns jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as the West Texas A&M softball team dropped the finale of a three-game series to Tarleton State on Sunday at Lady Buff Yard by the score of 13-2 in five innings. The loss leaves WT's overall record at 19-27 and 4-8 in Lone Star Conference South Division action while the TexAnns even their mark on the season at 19-19 and improve to 7-2 in LSC South record play. Tarleton State came out of the gate with a fury in the contest, scoring four runs off WT starter Andrea Renteria (7-11), who lasted only a third of an inning before being replaced by Shannon O'Dea. TexAnn catcher April Gonzales was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with five RBI, while pitcher Brooke Saulters (8-10) scattered four hits in a complete game effort to pick up her second in of the series. Trailing 13-0 in the bottom of the fifth, WT junior left fielder Jessica Ruzicki made sure the Lady Buffs did not end the game with a zero on the scoreboard, connecting on her fourth home run of the season. The Lady Buffs will look to get back on the right track next weekend when they travel to Portales, N.M., to battle LSC South rival Eastern New Mexico. |
