No. 6 Truman Snaps Lady Buffs' Nine-Match Winning Streak

TOPEKA, Kan. - The No. 17 West Texas A&M volleyball team's nine-match winning streak came to a halt on Friday afternoon as the Lady Buffs suffered a 3-1 (30-23, 28-30, 30-21 and 30-25) defeat at the hands of No. 6 Truman during the first day of the 2007 Premier Mortgage Washburn Lady Blues Classic. The setback leaves the Lady Buffs' overall record this season at 17-6 while Truman improves to 18-4 on the year. WTAMU is back in action at the tournament this afternoon with a 4 p.m. match-up with Emporia State. During the Truman match, sophomore outside hitter Laura Prinsen led a group of four Lady Buffs to tally 10 or more kills by collected a team-high 17. The Spring, Texas, native committed only two errors during the match for an impressive .469 attack percentage and now leads the team with 293 kills on the season. Middle blocker Melissa Harper contributed 14 kills and five total blocks against the Bulldogs while teammates Natalie Johnson, Jessica Tuttle and Kelly Culley each put up 10 kills. Sophomore setter Katie Rickwartz piled up a game-high 52 assists while Tuttle joined junior Libero Sara Contreras to pace the squad with 14 defensive digs apiece. |
