Lady Buffs Down Emporia State to Return to Win Column

TOPEKA, Kan. - After having its nine-match winning streak snapped earlier in the day, the No. 17 West Texas A&M volleyball bounced back in the night cap of a doubleheader at the 2007 Premier Mortgage Washburn Lady Blues Classic, defeating Emporia State in four games (30-24, 28-30, 30-22 and 30-27). The victory improves the Lady Buffs' overall record to 18-5 this season, while Emporia State falls to 16-6. Sophomore middle blocker Melissa Harper paced WTAMU with 18 kills in the match while classmates Laura Prinsen and Natalie Johnson contributed 16 and 15 kills, respectively. Sophomore setter Katie Rickwartz tossed up a match-high 62 assists and junior Libero Sara Contreras added 23 digs for the Lady Buffs. Sophomore Jessica Tuttle collected her second double-double of the day as she tallied 10 kills to go along with 18 digs. WTAMU is back in action at the 2007 Premier Mortgage Washburn Lady Blues Classic tomorrow when the team battles Missouri Western at 11 a.m. and returns to action against tournament host Washburn at 4 p.m. |
