Cross Country Enjoys Success at WTAMU Buffalo Stampede

CANYON, Texas - In their first action of the season, both the West Texas A&M men's and women's cross country teams enjoyed success at the WTAMU Buffalo Stampede which too place at the WTAMU Horse Center.

The Lady Buffs took home a fourth place team finish in the 5K run and were paced by sophomore Krisite Hartsfield who turned in a time of 20:28 to end in seventh place overall. Senior Mariana Chavira and freshman Becca Rapstine were the next pair of WTAMU runners to cross the finish line in 14th and 15th place, respectively, with times of 21:11 and 21:15.

Freshman Delinda Hill and junior Belinda Castanon rounded out the Lady Buffs that factored in the scoring at 20th and 21st place. Also participating for WTAMU was freshman Chelsi Ruiz, junior Sharen Diggs and sophomore Dorane Young.

Wayland Baptist took home first place team honors with a total time of 1:40:49 followed by El Paso Community College and Texas Tech. WBU's Carolina's Karunde earned first place individual honors with a time 18:07.

On the men's side the Buffs fielded only four runners so did not qualify for a team score as Texas Tech won the four mile event with a team time of 1:48:09. El Paso CC's Robert Menjo was the field's top individual with a pace of 20:31.

For WTAMU, the team's only returner Jose Velazquez was also its top finisher on the day, ending in 17th place with a time of 22:38.

The Buffs' Thomas Harris finished in 28th place with a run of 23:14 followed closely by sophomore Jose Huerta in 31st place at 23:21.

Isai Saucedo completed the WTAMU contingency, finishing in 49th place overall.
