ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Western Washington University's Christy Miller (Jr., Boise, ID/Bishop Kelly) was a double-event winner as the Vikings placed second in the men's division and third in the women's division at the Central Washington University Spike Arlt Invitational Track and Field Meet on Saturday at Tomlinson Stadium. The Viking men accumulated 143-1/2 points in the six-team meet, with the host Wildcats having a winning total of 272. Northwest Nazarene took the women's title with 263 points, Central edging Western for second, 140 to 135. "We bettered a lot of times and marks that will help us for the conference (championships)," said Pee Wee Halsell. "There were some snow showers which hurt some events, but overall it was a solid meet for us." Miller placed first in both the women's pole vault (10-6) and long jump (16-2 3/4). Two other event winners for the Vikings were Jill Rogers (Fr., Puyallup/Rogers) in the women's high jump (5-1) and Shane Gruger (Fr., Shoreline/Shorewood) in the men's 100 meters (11.27). The Vikings' Matt O'Connell (So., Sammamish/Skyline) finished second in both the men's 200 (22.76) and 400 (49.99). Also placing second for Western were Will Cameron (So., Poulsbo/North Kitsap) in the men's 1500 (4:02.70), Camille Clarke (Jr., Bellingham) in the women's pole vault (10-3 1/2), Michael Hoffman (Fr., Bellingham/Sehome) in the men's discus (137-0), Megan Paulsen (Fr., Bellevue/Bellevue Christian) in the women's triple jump (34-7 1/2), Erica Rance (Sr., Seattle/Renton) in the women's discus (129-3), Ben Wargo (So., Pullman) in the men's 110 hurdles (16.44) and Josh Winters (So., Bothell) in the men's pole vault (14-1 1/4).
