SEATTLE, Wash. - The scoring drought continued for Western Washington University as it managed just three runs in being swept 7-2 and 3-1 by Seattle University in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Sunday at Logan Field.

The defending league champion Vikings, who have lost six straight, fell to 16-13 overall and 5-3 in conference action, dropping out of first place. They have scored just five runs in their last five outings.

Seattle improved to 24-7 overall and took over as the league leader at 6-2.

In the opener, the Redhawks had 11 hits and got a complete-game from pitcher Erin Martin (15-2), who gave up just two runs, walked one and struck out two.

Seattle scored five times in the first three innings, all off Western starter Sarah McEnroe (So., Woodinville) (1-5), who gave up eight hits and walked three.

The Redhawks got two in the bottom of the first on RBI-singles by Brenda Stice and Jane Purdy, another in the second on a run-scoring single by Lauren Berin, and two more in the fifth on a home run by Kaha Weir, her second of the season.

Seattle made it 7-1 in the fifth inning as Megan MacIsaac had a two-run single.

Kelsey Anderson (Fr., Mount Vernon), who was 2-for-2, had a hand in both Western runs. In the third, she singled and scored on a double by Lisa Pendergrast (Sr., Bow/Burlington-Edison). In the seventh, Anderson drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

The loss was McEnroe's first in four decisions against Seattle. Emily Hardin (Fr., Bothell/Inglemoor) relieved for Western in the fourth and allowed two runs in 1-2/3 innings. Jen Jorgensen (So., Bellingham/Meridian) then worked 1-1/3 scoreless innings for the Vikings.

Katie Gould was 3-for-3 and scored two runs for Seattle, and Stice was 2-for-4.

In the nightcap, Western got just one run off Redhawk pitcher Kelsey Reynolds (9-4), who went the distance, scattering six hits, striking out four and walking just one.

Seattle took a 1-0 lead in the second when Jamie Foote doubled and scored on a two-out infield single by Gould, who was 4-for-5 on the day.

The Vikings tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth, Michelle Wrigley (Fr., Bothell/Inglemoor) leading off with a single and eventually scoring on a force out as Anderson beat the throw to first.

After Reynolds got out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the top of the fifth, Seattle scored in the bottom of that frame as McIsaac reached on an infield single and scored on a two-out double by Foote, who was 2-for-2.

The Redhawks scored an unearned run in the sixth as Western made two errors.

Vikings' pitcher Jessica Rosencrantz (Jr., Sequim) (10-6) allowed just five hits and struck out one, but walked five in her six innings of work.

Wrigley was 2-for-2 and walked.

Western returns home for 10 straight games, beginning with a GNAC doubleheader against Western Oregon on Friday (2 p.m.).
