April 20, 2008 BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Holly Rossman was 4-for-4 and drove in five runs, hitting a grand-slam home run in the top of the third inning, as Central Washington University defeated Western Washington University, 13-1 in five innings, in the opener of a Great Northwest Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Sunday at Viking Field on the WWU campus. The Wildcats, who improved to 15-20 overall and 10-5 in league action, had 17 hits in all, scoring one run in the first, five in the third, four in the fourth and three in the fifth. The home run was the eighth of the year for Rossman. Mallory Holtman was 2-for-3, scoring three runs and driving in one. Central pitcher Linse Vlahovich (9-11) allowed just three hits, all singles. She struck out eight and walked six. Western, which left 10 runners on base, fell to 21-16 overall and 9-6 in GNAC play. Sarah McEnroe (So., Woodinville) (4-7), who had won her last three starts for the Vikings, went just 2-1/3 innings. |
