LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The awards keep stacking up for Wyoming Cowboy junior Jake Shanklin from Ellensburg, Wash., as he was awarded with the 2008 USTFCCCA Mountain Region field Player of the Year on Tuesday.

In last week's Mountain West Conference Championships, Shanklin was honored with the Top Performance Award as he took the title in the 35-lb weight throw, with a toss of 71' 1 1/4". Earlier this season, he reached 71' 10 1/4" which ranks him third in the nation heading into the NCAA Indoor Championships held in Fayetteville, Ark., this weekend. In last year's NCAA indoor meet, Shanklin placed 12th with a toss of 65' 8 1/4" leaving him just shy of qualifying for the finals.

This is the first time Shanklin has won this award.
