Against a field of mainly southern schools and in heat that reached over 100 degrees, the Wyoming Cowboy golf team struggled to find their groove on Friday at the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas.

UW shot rounds of 310 (+22) and 307 (+19). Their total of 617 (+41) puts them in 14th place of 14 teams, eight strokes back of Rice.

Arkansas leads the field with their 36-hole mark of even-par 576. Event-host Houston and South Carolina-Aiken are in second place at 580 (+4).

18 holes remain to be played on Saturday morning at Laredo Country Club, measuring 7,241 yards, par 72.

"We are still not playing our best golf, but we are becoming competitive," said Cowboy head coach Joe Jensen. "Honestly, it was like playing in a blow dryer here today, with the heat and wind. I was worried about dehydration and the affect of the heat on my team.

"This remains some unbelievable exposure for this team. What a great opportunity to play against some very good competition."

Wyoming's low score of the day came from senior Zac Fisher who shot 75 (+3) in the afternoon round. Fisher and freshman Zach Zaremba both had team-best two-round totals of 153 (+9).

Baylor's Colston Williams leads the field of 75 collegiate golfers with a 36-hole scorecard of 137 (-7). UTEP's Roger Sloan is two strokes back in second place at 139 (-5).
