The Wyoming Cowboy golf team shot 310 (+26) in the last round of the Larry Nelson Collegiate Invite in Braselton, Ga. on Tuesday and finished in eighth place out of 14 teams.

After three rounds the Cowboys had a total score of 930 (+78). Event-host Kennesaw State University separated themselves from the rest of the field by posting a final score of 878 (+26) and winning first place by 22 strokes. Campbell University came in second with a total of 900 (+48).

The teams played the Woodlands Course at Chateau Elan Resort. Woodlands is par 71 and measures 6,735 yards.

Andrew An of Mercer University, Gideon Pienaar of Central Arkansas and Chris Wolfe of Armstrong Atlantic, tied for the best individual score, posting a mark of 215 (+2).

Wyoming freshman Gabe Maier earned a top-20 finish with a team best total of 228 (+15), which was 17th place in the tournament. Teammate, and fellow freshman, Zach Zaremba tied for 27th, while Phil Henzlik had rounds of 77, 80, and 77 to finish in a tie for 34th. Mike May had UW's top round on Tuesday, a 76 (+5).

"The kids know they are close and we played well at times during this tournament," said Cowboy head coach Joe Jensen. "However, the guys who shot our best rounds yesterday were our worst rounds today and vice-versa. That can't happen. We need to be more consistent.

"All in all, these young guys are learning on the fly and becoming better players. We look forward to a good week of practice before our home tournament in Scottsdale."

Up next for the Cowboys, they will host the 2008 Cowboy Classic presented by Cleveland Golf on April 7-8 in Scottsdale, Arizona.
