The Wyoming grapplers knew they were up against a national powerhouse in Cal State Fullerton headed into Saturday night's non-conference dual. Nonetheless, the Cowboys were able to come away with three victories, but the 21st ranked Titans proved to be too much as they defeated Wyoming 33-10 at the UniWyo Sports Complex in Laramie. The Pokes fall to 3-8 overall while the Titans improved to 12-5 overall and extended their consecutive match winning streak to nine.

"I am happy that none of our guys rolled over tonight," UW head coach Steven Suder said. "All of our guys went out tonight and tried to prove something to a very strong team. When wrestling a team like Cal State Fullerton, you are going to face ten very talented athletes and they are going to put up a fight."

UW's Cody Grant started the night off for the Pokes at 125 pounds with a last second win over Andre Gonzalez to give Wyoming the early 3-0 lead. Grant scored a takedown at the 6:56 mark to steal the victory from Gonzalez.

"A wrestling match is broken down into 15 second decisions," Suder continued. "Cody gave himself a chance to win and made a tough decision at the end of the match to get the big win and I am proud of him."

Wyoming received a strong performance from junior Eric Coxbill who continues to deliver for the Cowboys. He scored nine takedowns and added one escape and riding time to defeat Ted Bristol 20-8 and bring the Cowboys within nine. Coxbill is now 22-10 and has seven major decisions.

"Eric (Coxbill) looked like deja vu out there tonight from his last dual," Suder said with a smile. "He is breaking guys and building his confidence which will benefit him as we enter the last part of our season."

Wyoming's final win came from senior Kyle Morrow as he defeated Todd Noel 8-5 bringing the overall team score closer at 16-10. Morrow scored two takedowns in the third period to clinch his third straight victory.

"Kyle has been wrestling well for us and he is beginning to believe that he is in shape and has a good attack which is paying off for him," Suder said. "The more he believes in himself the more he will continue to improve."

The Cowboys will jump back into conference action next week as they head down to Colorado Springs to take on the Falcons of the Air Force Academy Saturday, Feb., 23. Wyoming's fifth WWC dual will begin at 7 p.m.
