LARAMIE, Wyo. -

UW head wrestling coach Steven Suder announced Tuesday the signing of Jacob Scharbrough from Weiser High School in Weiser, Idaho. Scharbrough will attend the University of Wyoming and compete with the wrestling team for the 2008-09 season.

Scharbrough was a three-time state champion wrestler, ranked #4 in the nation at 215 pounds on intermatwrestle.com and was the runner-up in the Cadet Freestyle National Championships. He went undefeated his senior season and pinned all four of his opponents in the state tournament for the second straight year. He tallied over 170 wins in high school and was also a three-time all-state linebacker at Weiser High. Scharbrough is as National Honor Society member and is ranked 35th out of 123 in his class with a 3.7 GPA.

"I am extremely excited to attend the University of Wyoming in the fall," Scharbrough said. "I like the country feel because I am from a similar area and I love the outdoors. The coaches and teammates were great when I met them and I couldn't imagine a better offer."

"Jacob is a very talented wrestler with tremendous speed and strength," Suder said."Our staff is excited to add another talented big man to the room."
