LARAMIE, Wyo. -

Complete Weekly Press Release in PDF Format

The Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball team will be on the road today, Wednesday, Feb. 13, to try and take sole possession of second place in the Mountain West Conference. Wyoming will take on the TCU Lady Frogs in a game set to tip off at 5:30 p.m. MT/6:30 p.m. CT in Fort Worth.

"I expect a physical game against TCU," said UW head coach Joe Legerski. "They are a talented and very well coached team. We will have to play a good game and hope we are close at the end to make a play.

"It was good to see us bounce back against New Mexico. We shot the ball extremely well, which was good to see."

Wyoming is currently 19-3 overall and 7-2 in MWC play after earning a 70-55 victory over the New Mexico Lobos on Sunday afternoon. They are currently ranked 21st in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll and 22nd in the Associated Press Poll. Senior Hanna Zavecz leads the way for UW with 13.9 points and 3.8 assists per game. She is followed by fellow senior Justyna Podziemska who is adding 12.7 points and 5.7 rebounds, while Aubrey Vandiver is chipping in 11.5 points and a team leading 6.5 rebounds per game. The Cowgirls are leading the MWC in scoring defense, allowing just 52.4 points per contest and in blocked shots (5.27 bpg). They are also shooting .417 (481-1154) from the field, .330 (152-461) from beyond the arc and .700 (299-427) from the free throw line.

TCU is currently 14-9 overall and 7-2 in MWC play. They are led by Adrianne Ross who is averaging 13.4 points and 3.7 rebounds. She is followed by Lorie Rayford-Butler who is adding 10.9 points and 7.2 rebounds. They return three starters and eight letterwinners to a team that went 21-11 overall and 11-5 in the MWC a year ago. This is the 12th meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 6-5. The last time the two teams met was January 12, 2008 as the Cowgirls defeated the Lady Frogs, 62-45, in Laramie. TCU is coached by Jeff Mittie who is in his nine season with the program.
