Cowgirls Hope to Bounce Back Against the Falcons on Saturday

The Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball team will try and get back on the winning track when they host the Air Force Academy Falcons, on Saturday, February 16. The game is set to tip off at 2:00 p.m. in the Arena Auditorium.

Wyoming is currently 19-4 overall and 7-3 in Mountain West Conference play after falling to TCU, 73-59, on Wednesday night. They are currently ranked 21st in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll and 22nd in the Associated Press Poll. Senior Hanna Zavecz leads the way for UW with 13.7 points and 3.8 assists. She is followed by fellow senior Justyna Podziemska who is adding 12.5 points and 5.7 rebounds, while Aubrey Vandiver is chipping in 11.2 points and a team leading 6.4 rebounds per game. The Cowgirls are leading the MWC in scoring defense, allowing just 53.3 points per contest, and blocked shots (5.30 bpg). They are also shooting .414 (502-1213) from the field, .328 (158-481) from beyond the arc and .705 (313-444) from the free throw line.

Air Force is currently 8-14 overall and 2-8 in the MWC. They are led by Alecia Steele who is averaging 13.0 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. She is followed by Pamela Findlay who is adding 11.5 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. They return two starters and 11 letterwinners to a team that went 6-23 overall and 1-15 in the MWC a year ago. This is the 33rd meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 30-2. The last time the two teams met was January 16, 2007 as the Cowgirls defeated the Falcons, 75-59, in Colorado Springs. Air Force is coached by Ardie McInelly who is in her seventh season with the program.
