Cowgirls to Host Cougars on Senior Night

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The Wyoming Cowgirls will close out the regular season by hosting the BYU Cougars, on Wednesday, March 5. The game time is set for 6:00 p.m. in the Arena Auditorium and will be broadcast on The Mtn. Sports Network, which is channel 412 in Laramie.

"Senior night is always special, but for this group especially," said UW head coach Joe Legerski. "They've helped put Wyoming on the map and have meant so much to this program. It will be a very special night."

Wyoming is currently 23-5 overall and 11-4 in conference play after a 67-53 loss to Utah on Sunday. Senior Hanna Zavecz leads the way for UW with 13.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists. She is followed by fellow senior Justyna Podziemska who is adding 12.8 points and 5.7 rebounds, while Aubrey Vandiver is chipping in 11.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. The Cowgirls are leading the Mountain West Conference in scoring defense allowing just 53.3 points per contest and blocked shots (5.18 bpg). They are also shooting .418 (610-1459) from the field, .337 (195-579) from beyond the arc and .706 (381-540) from the free throw line.

BYU is currently 13-13 overall and 7-7 in the MWC after a 54-49 loss against Air Force on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars are led by Mallary Carling who is averaging 13.9 points and 3.6 rebounds. She is followed by Shawnee Slade who is adding 7.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. They return two starters and seven letterwinners to a team that went 23-10 overall and 12-4 in the MWC a year ago. This is the 64th meeting between the two schools. BYU leads the series 45-18. The last time the two teams met was February 2, 2008 as the Cougars defeated Wyoming 56-42 in Provo. BYU is coached by Jeff Judkins who is in his seventh season with the program.
