The Wyoming Cowgirl golf team shot 316 (+36) on Saturday at Greeley Country Club and leads the Northern Colorado Bears (323) by seven strokes in dual competition.

The Front Range schools will play a final 18-hole round on Sunday.

As is the norm in college golf, each team designated five players whose scores could count toward the team total and the low four rounds are scored. Both Wyoming and Northern Colorado each played four additional individual golfers, bringing the field total to 18.

"Considering we had never played this course before today and the cold, overcast weather, I was pretty proud of our team," said Cowgirl head coach Josey Stender. "They hung in there and did a good job of managing their games, focusing on the process and not scores. This is a tight course and you have to think your way around it.

"We will feel more confident tomorrow and that should help our scores overall."

Cowgirl senior Lindsay Bauknecht had the best round of either team with her scorecard of 76 (+6). She has a one-stroke lead over Northern Colorado's Heather Daviner (77, playing as an individual) and a two-stroke lead over UNCo's Jenny Henderson (78). Wyoming sophomore Sarah Fogerty is fourth after her round of 79 (+9).

"I'm really proud of Lindsay (Bauknecht)," added Stender. "She had a good short game today, had a great attitude and is hitting the ball well."

UW also counted rounds of 80 (+10) from senior Laura Mengelkamp and 81 (+11) from sophomore Jonelle Martinez towards their team total. Junior Mikala Henzlik scored 83 (+13).

Playing as individuals, UW senior Kaelee Aegerter and freshmen Molly Black and Jenna Zamprelli each shot 80. Cowgirl redshirt freshman Johnna Jeffries scored 82 (+12).

The 36-hole dual is being played at the Greeley Country Club course, one of the Bears' home courses, which measures 6,252 yards and is par 70.
